Benefits of Chiropractic Care

It took awhile, but I’ve finally got around to posting the last post in my self-care series! My first two posts were on the benefits of yoga and benefits of massage and this post will focus on the benefits of chiropractic care. I have a long standing relationship with chiropractic care. I started seeing a chiropractor at a very young age as I was diagnosed with a minimal form of scoliosis. The plan was to stay on top of chiropractic adjustments as I was growing, so that I would hopefully be able to avoid having to wear a brace everyday or requiring surgery. Low and behold, we achieved this goal and although I still have a bit of a curve in my spin, I mostly outgrew and corrected this condition with chiropractic adjustments.

Flash forward to today and chiropractic care is still part of my wellness routine. I stay on top of it for maintenance and go about once a week. Finding a good chiropractor is key. I am a member of a popular chiropractic franchise and have had great experiences with most of the chiropractors I visit within the franchise. This model works well for me because it is convenient and they have a very reasonable monthly membership rate that allows me to get 4 adjustments a month. I have my favorite chiropractors in Phoenix where I live and depending on where I am in the valley, I can just drop into whatever location is closest and most convenient at the time when I need it. There have only been a few chiropractors that I haven’t been wowed by through my experiences. I look for someone who is not going to give me a cookie cutter adjustment, but instead tailor the adjustment to how I’m feeling that day, any ailments or concerns, etc. Most of the chiropractors I have seen are passionate about what they do and take the time to check in and really zero in on what I need for that day. This is so important and makes all the difference.

So are you new to learning about the benefits of chiropractic care? Heard a bit, but are skeptical or just curious to find out more. Below I outline some of the proven benefits along with how chiropractic care works on the body. I really believe that chiropractic care goes hand in hand with massage and yoga for the perfect trifecta of optimizing your overall health. I honestly can’t think of one in the three that I would want to drop out of my health and wellness regimen because they all work so well together for me.

How does Chiropractic Care work?

Chiropractic care has been assisting people of all ages with a multitude of health issues and concerns for over a century without the use of drugs or surgery.

Chiropractic care is based upon the knowledge that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system. Chiropractic adjustments work by helping to restore your own inborn ability to be healthy. When under the proper control of a healthy nervous system, all the cells, tissue, and organs of your body are designed to function well and resist disease and illness. A common interference to the nervous system is within the moving bones that make up the spinal column. A loss of normal motion or position of these bones can impair the function of the nervous system and disrupt the transmission of controlling nerve impulses which can throw off the body’s ability to function properly as a whole.

Benefits of Routine Chiropractic Care may include any of the following:

  • Improved Nerve Communication in the Body
  • Improved Joint Motion and Coordination
  • Improved Physical Function and Performance
  • Improved Posture
  • Relief from Back and Neck Pain
  • Relief from Leg, Knee, Foot and Ankle Pain
  • Relief from Arm, Wrist, Shoulders or Elbow Pain
  • Relief from Stress and Tension Disorders
  • Relief from Joint Discomfort
  • Relief from Bursitis
  • Relief from Arthritis
  • Relief from Chronic Injuries

Chiropractic care promotes ongoing wellness by improving spinal and joint function often resulting in a healthier, more active lifestyle. With regular adjustments, chiropractic offers a host of preventative health benefits, and is vital for keeping your body balanced, flexible and functioning at its best. Everyone, from growing children to active seniors, can benefit from regular chiropractic care.

People have also reported chiropractic benefits help to improve:

  • Back pain
  • Headaches
  • Ear infections
  • Neck pain
  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Scoliosis
  • Asthma
  • Blood pressure
  • Healthy pregnancy
  • Organ function
  • Surgery prevention

I have continued to receive weekly adjustments throughout my pregnancy and have found it very beneficial in relieving pain in my neck, shoulders and back caused by the increased weight of my growing baby belly. It has also helped with keeping my pelvis and hips aligned as they shift and prepare for birth. AmericanPregnancy.org states that chiropractic care during pregnancy can help to maintain an overall healthy pregnancy, curb nausea, reduce the time of labor and delivery, and possibly help prevent a C-section. Pretty amazing!

By no means am I an expert when it comes to Chiropractic Care, but hopefully this post gave you a starting point or inspired you to find out more and give it a try especially if you have been experiencing any of the ailments listed.

Lots of love and good health,

Tasha, The Non-Toxic Newbie

  2. I just wanted to thank you for helping me learn more about chiropractic care. I actually didn’t know that this could actually help with organ function. I’m curious to learn what some of the methods that are used for this care or if there are certain techniques that are utilized depending on someone’s circumstances.

  3. It’s interesting that you talked about how your spine being out of shape can cause difficulty for your nervous system. I was injured a few days ago and I wasn’t sure if I should go to a chiropractor. I can see how it would be helpful, so my body becomes better able to naturally fight off disease.
